About Me

Reading a King James Bible on board the Mayflower II
I'm a cradle Catholic and lifelong history nerd.
Currently I work in a New Orleans museum where I specialize in decorative arts history. Being immersed in object study has made me realize there's something almost sacramental in the way artifacts can reveal deeper ideas about the past.

Some of my other research interests are architectural history and American religion. My master's thesis covered the revival of priestly vestments in the Gilded Age Episcopal Church. An earlier project on post-Vatican II church architecture inspired my long obsession with photographing historic sacred buildings.

In its current state, this blog features my musings on how history, religion, and identity intersect in modern life, particular popular culture. (I've never met a Bible movie I didn't want to analyze.) Other topics that might come up include:
Being a part Trad, part Vatican II young adult Catholic
Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisted, my all-time favorite novel
Vincentian spirituality of service

Gluten-free life as a medical necessity, not a diet trend. (It will not magically make you skinny or better at sports.)
